It took part in the commencement of, what was formerly known as, the Organization for African Unity and now the African Union. Nigeria has been a significant player, since the 1970s, in the global oil industry. Nigeria has been a member of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC since July 1971. Nigeria has a huge variety of insufficiently utilized natural resources such as: natural gas, coal, bauxite, tantalite, gold, tin, iron ore, limestone, niobium, lead and zinc. |
